Born in Belgium, into a musical family, Floris Willem is based near Vienna. 

After his studies at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels with Augustin Dumay and Tatiana Samouil, Floris went on to study in Vienna with Boris Kuschnir and with Christian Altenburger at the mdw – University for Music and Performing Arts, from which he graduated with highest distinction in 2021.  

As a soloist, Floris has performed in prestigious halls throughout Europe, including the Musikverein, MuTh and Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Palais des Beaux-arts (BOZAR) and Flagey in Brussels, Kursaal in Ostende, Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht and the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.  

As an active chamber musician, both on violin and viola, Floris has collaborated with eminent artists including Reinhard Latzko, Thomas Selditz, Christopher Hinterhuber, Patrick Demenga, Matthias Schorn, Dalibor Karvay, Christian Altenburger, Boris Kuschnir, Nobuko Imai, Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Franz Bartolomey, Valentin Erben, Herbert Mayr, Dominik Wagner, Raffaele Giannotti, Christoph Zimper, Dorothy Khadem-Missagh, Stefan Kropfitsch, Lily Francis, Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort, Philippe Raskin, Konstantin & Alexander Wladigeroff… 

Floris won prizes at numerous international violin competitions including Prix Vieuxtemps (1. Prize and public’s prize, 2015), Concorso Andrea Postacchini (3. Prize cat D in 2015), Fidelio-Wettbewerb (2017, Vienna), Lions European Competition Belgium (1. Prize 2016), Prinses Christina Concours in Den Haag (3. Prize and Special Prize in 2012), Concours Arthur Grumiaux/ Bravo! (1. Prize in 2011).

In 2017 he founded the band “Floris and the Flames”, which is crossing the boundaries between classical music and other styles.
