Winner of the prestigious Prix Vieuxtemps, Floris Willem is one of the most promising Belgian artists of his generation.
After his studies at the “Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel” in Brussels with Augustin Dumay and Tatiana Samouil, Floris went on to study with great Russian pedagogue Boris Kuschnir in Vienna.
At present he is studying at the mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst with professor Christian Altenburger.
He performed as soloist with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, symphoniaASSAI among others.
He has given recitals in various European cities including Wiener Musikverein, MuTh, ORF RadioKulturhaus (Vienna), Palais des Beaux-Arts/Bozar, Flagey, MIM (Brussels), National Palace of Culture (Sofia), De Bijloke (Ghent), Amuz (Antwerp), Theater aan het Vrijthof (Maastricht)…
He was laureate at international competitions including Prix Vieuxtemps (1. Prize and public’s prize, 2015), Concorso Andrea Postacchini (3. Prize cat D in 2015), Lions European Competition Belgium (1. Prize 2016) , Fidelio-Wettbewerb (Vienna), Prinses Christina Concours in Den Haag (Grand Prix of the Press jury and 3. Prize in 2012), Concours Arthur Grumiaux/ Bravo! (1. Prize in 2011).
Stichting Robus, Stichting Amade, Inspiratum, JAT vzw en ‘Stroom’ provided him scholarships and financial help.
With his group “Floris and the Flames” (consisting of violin, piano, guitar, bass guitar and drums), he hopes to cross the boundaries between classical music and other styles and reach broader audiences.
Floris currently plays the 1865 ex-Grumiaux “Vuillaume”, kindly on loan by the
“Fondation Arthur Grumiaux”.
