Winner of the prestigious Prix Vieuxtemps, Floris Willem is one of the most promising Belgian artists of his generation.
After his studies at the “Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel” in Brussels with Augustin Dumay and Tatiana Samouil, Floris went on to study with great Russian professor Boris Kuschnir in Vienna.
At present he is studying at the mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst with professor Christian Altenburger.
He has performed in various European cities, including Vienna (Musikverein, MuTh, ORF-Radio Kulturhaus), Brussels (BOZAR, Flagey, MIM), Sofia (National Palace of Culture), Ghent (Bijloke), Antwerpen (AMUZ), Geneva (Conservatoire), Den Haag (Zuiderstrandtheater), Maastricht (Theater aan het Vrijthof).
As a chamber musician he played with famous artists like Matthias Schorn (Solo-Klarinette Wiener Philharmoniker), Christopher Hinterhuber, Reinhard Latzko, Thomas Selditz, Franz Bartolomey, Raphaela Gromes, Boris Kuschnir, Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Nobuko Imai, Philippe Raskin…
As a soloist he performed with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral de Bruxelles, Camerata Musica Wien, Philharmonie Zuid-Nederland, symphoniaASSAI among others.
He was laureate at international competitions including Prix Vieuxtemps (1. Prize and public’s prize, 2015), Concorso Andrea Postacchini (3. Prize cat D in 2015), Fidelio-Wettbewerb (2017, Vienna), Lions European Competition Belgium (1. Prize 2016) , Prinses Christina Concours in Den Haag (Grand Prix of the Press jury and 3. Prize in 2012), Concours Arthur Grumiaux/ Bravo! (1. Prize in 2011).
With his group “Floris and the Flames” (consisting of violin, piano, guitar, bass guitar and drums), he hopes to cross the boundaries between classical music and other styles and reach broader audiences.
